Korean Cell Line Bank

Korean Cell Line Bank (KCLB) is located at the Cancer Research Institute of the Seoul National University College of Medicine. On August 31, 1993, the Korean Cell Line Research Foundation (KCLB/KCLRF) acquired the status of the International Depositary Authority as specified in Article 6 of the Budapest Treaty approved by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The KCLB is currently supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of Korea and the Ministry of Educational Science and Technology (MSIP). KCLB is also one of the Korean National Research Resource Center (KNRRC) supported by NRF.

Korean Cell Line Bank (KCLB) is one of the largest biological resource center in Korea. KCLB not only collects cell lines from diverse laboratories but also continually develops new cell lines. We as well distribute our cell lines and provide researchers with detailed information about the cell lines.

Our five main roles are establishment, collection, distribution, Deposition, Service of cell lines.

Establishment

KCLB has established more than 423 cell lines originated from various human tissues. Among them, 13 Korean gastric cancer cell lines, 103 Korean colon cancer cell lines, 19 Korean lung cancer cell lines, 15 Korean cervical cancer cell lines, and 9 Korean ovarian cancer cell lines, 18 Korean pancreas cancer cell lines, 7 Korean breast cancer cell lines, etc. have been reported in several scientific journals. We constantly put our best effort to establish new cell lines originated from human organs.

Collection

Distribution

KCLB has distributed cell lines to domestic and foreign laboratories. We do not pursuit profit. The fee charged to distribute our cell lines only includes handling fees and material cost to maintain cell lines.

Deposition

On August 31, 1993, the Korean Cell Line Research Foundation (KCLB/KCLRF) acquired the status of the International Depositary Authority as specified in Article 6 of the Budapest Treaty approved by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

KCLB has deposited numerous cell lines that are indispensible for biomedical science study. Especially, we center on introducing new cell lines abroad as long as it doesn't infringe intellectual property rights. We hope that our effort will eventually lead to rendering great services to the development of science

Establishment

KCLB offer the several services (Quality Control of Cell Lines services, Contract Research Organization (CRO) services, Hands-on Workshops) for research. KCLB has held workshops and conferences under the subject of new cell lines information. We have focused on not only the biological information about the cell lines but also the cell line database management.
