This line was derived from cells present in ascites fluid obtained from a patient after treatment with 5-fluorouracil. The cells contain Dopa decarboxylase and, unlike other colorectal lines, contain cytoplasmic dense core granules characteristic of endocrine secretion. The cells do not express the TAG-72 or CA-19-9 antigens nor do they produce carcinoembryonic antigen.
